Milan – the end of a history?

In 1986, when Silvio Berlusconi landed on San Siro and ran out of the chopper like a rock star thus announcing his arrival at the helm of Milan, no one could’ve thought that the spectacle-keen, megaloman “Il Cavaliere” would bring so much success to the Rossoneri.

His era was marked by his club becoming the most prosperous Italian club in Europe, but definitely confirmed the era of domination over Inter. Calico could be divided to pre-Berlusconi era and the period of his reign characterized by media and political influence on the game that is the most important thing in the life of any average Italian. There is no time nor need to list all the things Berlusconi did for Milan, but that was a two-way road. All the success and prosperity on the green field he used for his personal affirmation, even founded a political party that has the most famous football slogan in its name “Forza Italia”, but also proved that someone capable of bringing a club back from the dead is also capable of running a country. You will often hear fans all around the globe dissing and slamming Berlusconi, but they still have to respect him. The way he climbed to the top is certainly not the old dull pattern of the path paved with honor and compassion of a winner. However, history often doesn’t leave space for losers to tell their version of truth.

However, the era of a provincial hero is over. Today, AC Milan is nothing more than a glorious palace now caving in. the squad seems like a collection of museum exhibits and not a serious football team. They didn’t send their generation of “senators” to the retirement on time and today they are paying the price. Excellent double European Champions which played one final in last five years is simply fagged. Mulishly rejecting to thank the veterans and respected members, Carlo Ancelotti has dug his own grave. Summer transfer markets were used as the right chance to bring the old exhausted players whose top days are long gone, like Ronaldinho and Ronaldo or like former fans’ favorites that will never be loved like they once have been, Shevchenko. All of those players are past, some inexperienced minnows might tremble in front of them, but most of the teams have already felt and found Milan’s weak points. today, underdogs are going to Meazza with the plausible hope of making a surprise, while Milan’s  defeats crush even a spot of dignity that is  left on Red-Black shirt.

Last year’s breakdown, not playing in Champions League, could’ve been the chance for new beginning. Instead, as fans say it, they tried to get their bellies full eating hot soup. Zambrotta, Shevchenko, Ronaldinho, shadows of once great players tried to rescue their careers on Milan’s account. And they failed because Milan is not the club where you will try to regain your former form, it is the place whre you have to play right now because no one is patient enough to wait for only you. The reality is different now, no one cares what Berlusconi, Galiani, Ancelotti think… people remember you by what you do on the pitch now not by something that had happened at the beginning of the century. That is why fan’s message and the contempt that arouse in them after the last game clearly indicates that fans have reached the verdict. It reads:
It is time for new faces, new people, for the last tribute to Milan and the last 25 years. First step is already planned, the retirement of Maldini the great stature who doesn’t deserve to be escorted by mocking we saw against Cagliari. Revolution, not cosmetic disguise also implies the departure of Ancelotti with whom we are all fed up with. Next, one-way ticket for Brazilian clan, even if their countryman Leonardo comes to the helm. And eventually, perhaps the most painful moment, selling Kaka since the rebuilding must be financed from something. We are not talking about dozens of million here, hundreds more likely.

And of course there is not enough money in the world to buy fan’s patience. That is going to be the biggest problem of new, remodeled Milan.
