The end of an empire

Someone said: „You can’t fool all the people all the time.“ This seems to apply best on Silvio Berlusconi’s case. He seems to have run out of tricks and the illusion is nearing its end.

The time when empires are tumbling down can easily be sensed. The best are leaving, decadence is reaching its prime and everyone who can jump in the rescue boat is crazy if they don’t.

Milan are like „Titanic“ now; the only ones left are the old and weak and when Ricky Kaka leaves the sinking deck, it will be the signal that there is no more hope.

The thing is that Berlusconi has found better and younger toys than Milan. When a rich man says that the club should save money, when a prime minister calls for restrictions, he is clearly not speaking of himself. Orgy in his villa on Sardinia and girls barely of age shows two things, that Berlusconi is aware of his age and that he has seen all he wanted from football.

Never again will Milan have the Dutch trio or a genius like Savicevic, or Shevchenko from his best days. Same as Berlusconi will never again be young. The nature is simply taking its course and the rich and mighty Milan is facing the same destiny as their owner.

When was the last time they won a title?

Two Champions League titles are ancient history and bringing worn-out Brazilians shows that the club have no idea nor the courage to start over.

Even if Berlusconi decides to make a revolution similar to the one he made in the mid 80s with Arigo Sacchi, how many years will it take?

Five, six, eight… in eight years he will be 80. These are not the years to pick the fruits of your work. It is better to take what’s left of it right now.

It won’t be a surprise to see the primitive, yet charming man such as Berlusconi sell all that is worth and leave Milan in ruins. Emperors like him burned Rome, aware that they are running out of time.

The only way out for Milan will be Arabian capital and the destiny of English clubs. Anything else will lead them to disaster and a big bang that will crush what’s left of Italian football.
