After Andrei Arshavin moved to the British Island, there is a rumor that Rangers skipper, Barry Ferguson, could move in the opposite direction.
His former coach, Dick Aadvocaat, now Zenit manager, is prepared to offer him a hefty contract in order to lure him to the north of Russia. Last year’s UEFA Cup champions have no doubt whatsoever over Ferguson’s decision. He is nearing the end of his playing days and this could be his final chance to earn a huge contract.
Advocaat sees Scotch national team captain as the ideal replacement for Ukraine Timoschuyk who leaves to Bayern at the end of the season. By the way, this is the second time that Advocaat is trying to hire Gers’ play-maker. Two years ago, after that big dispute between Ferguson and former coach Le Guen, Barry was close to sealing the deal. Another thing that Dutch manager has in his sleeve is the fact Ferguson is entering the last year of his contract with Rangers. He is currently earning £25.000 per week and the problem is that if he decides to sign a new deal he will need to agree on major pay-cut.
One potential problem for this move could be nostalgia, his family’s wish to stay in Scotland. However, as Ferguson is often blamed for the fact that Gers have been in Seltic’s shadow over the last few years, one of the best Scottish players in the last decade might be willing to look for a new challenge.
Advocaat has already commenced the search for the replacement for Ukraine player who is one of Sankt Peterbsburg’s club key player. Russian cap, Semshov, did arrive, but the Russian media report he is having problems fitting in Advocaat’s formation and that Duchman will look for a new solution this summer.
