Ajax is one of the most famous football clubs in the world but things haven’t been going well for the Dutch giants lately. Five years without the league title is simply too much and now even Marco van Basten could help the team win anything last season. The club officials, however, managed to persuade Martin Jol to leave Hamburg and try to help Ajax return to glory days. The first signs have been positive but it is evident there is a lot more work to be done.
When you coach Ajax, there is always an unlimited potential throughout the squad as this is the club with arguably the best youth academy there is. This is why it is surprising that the results are far from impressive lately but that could change under Martin Jol. Former Tottenham boss is known as a very talented coach and he always builds a good rapport with players. He is a brave man and probably the first coach who dared change Ajax’s vintage 4-3-3 formation, as he thought a 4-4-2 would best suit his new side.
The atmosphere around the squad is very good as everybody believe this will be the long-awaited title-winning season and Ajax again have a very good team. Jol has got a big squad at his disposal and his team will be able to cope with playing in two strong competitions. This team seems to have just the right mix between talent and experience, while the boss has a lot of different types of players he can use depending in the opponent. The team only suffered minor changes this summer, which means they should be able to reach top form very soon and we all know how important is to have a good start when a team are fighting for the title. All signs point out that this could be Ajax’s season and the odds of 2.75 offered by Ladbrokers on Ajax to win the Eredivisie look really tempting.
